‘Deprived sections, middle-class angry with paralysis of development and policy’

Rajya Sabha member of Congress Mani Shankar Aiyar has warned that India was on the verge of destroying democracy and Nehruvian development if it did not empower ordinary people and depended on bureaucratic models of development.

A third of the country affected by insurgency was revolting against democracy out of disillusionment, he said in the third memorial lecture of former Congress MP Muduganti Ramgopal Reddy here on Saturday. He was speaking on ‘The dilemma of democracy and development’.

Mr. Aiyar said both the deprived and middle-classes of the country were angry with the paralysis of development and policy. They believed that development was not desirable but disruptive. This was because the trickle down theory of growth did not work.
