AITUC district secretary B. Ramaiah has called upon workers to participate in the nation-wide general strike slated on February 20 and 21.

Addressing the workers’ union meeting at Chaitanya Chemicals factory here, he said the workers, contractual and daily-wage earners were languishing due to the lopsided policies of the Central and State governments.

He criticised the governments for stopping permanent recruitment of workers and engaging them only on contractual and outsourced basis.

The right of workers to form unions was being violated by some managements, but the Labour Department was indifferent, Mr. Ramaiah alleged.

The government should take up regular appointments by giving up contractual and outsourced appointments and grant them medical facilities and pension and extend assistance for education of their children, he demanded.

AITUC city president G. Venugopal, secretary K. Mallikarjuna Reddy and factory union leaders Subbaiah and Sudhakar participated in the meeting.
