All India Students Federation (AISF) opposed the foreign universities bill on the ground that it would commercialise higher education in the country.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, AISF state general secretary N. Lenin Babu said the organisation was going to organise “Chalo Delhi” on February 3 to force the government to withdraw the bill.

He said foreign universities were more interested in charging exorbitant fees from students. Instead of developing our own universities by allocating sufficient resources, the government was trying to rely on foreign universities to meet our educational needs. The country would go backwards if the government did not realiSe its mistake and revamp its educational policy.

Mr. Lenin Babu urged the State Government to allot Rs. 100 crore for every university in the State for comprehensive development. He said the Governor should take an initiative to set right the universities. The universities should be cleansed of political interference.
