Officials of the Airports Authority of India have said that authorities are examining the possibility of providing additional fire services for handling B737-800/A321 type aircraft at Gannavaram airport. Responding to a representation made by the Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry on upgrading fire service at the airport, AAI Regional Executive Director (SR) D. Devaraj said, at present, the airport was having Category-VI fire service to handle aircraft up to A319/A320.

The AAI was trying to increase the fire service equipment to Category-VII, and increase the security hold area. Steps would be taken to increase passenger capacity and their comfort, and details had been sought from the station authorities in this regard, said Mr. Devaraj.
