Aircel, one of leading private telecom operator, rolled out 3G services in Guntur District on Wednesday.
District Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu launched the 3G operations at a function held in private hotel.
The 3G mobile telephony was heralding a revolution in the country and would go in a long way in increasing the mobile density in the country, he said. He called upon the telecom operators to include data on prices of commodities, train and bus time-table and other information regarding hospitals, schools etc.
Business head, Andhra Pradesh circle, Murthy Chaganti, said that 3G services would provide faster internet connectivity, video conferencing, video calling, live streaming video, chatting and mobile TV etc. Stating the internet usage is still one of the lowest in the country, Mr. Murthy said that Aircel looks at this phenomenon as a business opportunity and has plans to expand the operations in tier-3 and tier-4 cities. The Aircel is keen on producing cheaper 3G mobile sets and data plans affordable to all sections of the society. The data plans starting from 1 M.B have been devised targeting a wide spectrum of society, including students.
Existing Aircel circumscribers can avail of 3G services by keying in START 3G and SMS to 121.
