Hundreds of students poured on to the streets in protest against the Group of Ministers (oOM) on Telangana reconstituted by the Centre on Tuesday to go into the issue of bifurcation, even as striking government employees resorted to rasta roko on the Chennai-Kolkata national highway here on Wednesday.

Students led by Samaikyandhra Vidyarthi Joint Action Committee (SVJAC) State co-convenor Rayapatti Jagadeesh set ablaze the effigies of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and P.Chidambaram. ''We don't want a GoM in which there is no representation to Seemandhra region. Let Mr Chidambaram and Mr A.K.Antony (Defence Minister) divide Tamil Nadu and Kerala before giving their recommendations on dismembering the first linguistic state of Andhra Pradesh'', said Mr Jagadeesh while leading the protest near Mangamoor Donka.

Blocking vehicular traffic on the express highway, the employees raised slogans against the Seemandhra leaders for their failure to stop the Union Cabinet's decision on the statehood issue. At least from now they should take an active part in the Samaikyandhra movement and stall the introduction of bill on Telangana in Parliament, he said while leading the protest which brought to a grinding halt trucks in both directions for a few km.
