A test to determine the was conducted on Somidi, a Chhattisgarh-based tribal girl, at the district headquarters hospital here on Thursday in compliance with the Andhra Pradesh High Court orders.
It may be noted that Somidi, a native of Nimmalagudem in Chhattisgarh, was arrested by the Dummugudem police and subsequently lodged in the Central Jail in Warangal about ten days ago. The police identified her as an accused in the case relating to torching of a road roller by suspected Maoist militia members and cited her age as 19 years in their remand report. However, the Human Rights Forum (HRF) had filed a petition in the High Court countering the contention of the police and claiming that Somidi was a 15-year-old minor. The High Court on Monday directed the authorities to conduct the test on Somidi while hearing a petition filed by the HRF’s counsel. “The prescribed tests have been conducted on her in accordance with the High Court’s orders,” said Subbaiah, Superintendent of the district headquarters hospital.
