KHAMMAM: A senior advocate, Vaireddy Venkateswar Rao was hospitalised with burns following an alleged attempt on his life on the premises of the court at Madhira at 8. 10 p.m on Friday, according to the police. He was said to be out of danger.
Mr. Venkateswar Rao who spoke to The Hindu over phone from the hospital, alleged that two advocates pounced upon him and attempted to burn him alive after throwing kerosene on his body. He went to the court complex for an evening walk, which he said was part of his daily routine being unaware of the plot hatched by the assailants.
He alleged that two of his junior lawyers could also be behind the attempt. Mr. Venkateswar Rao was the former Bar association president of Madhira. The Madhira Circle Inspector, Ravindranath said that a case was registered and investigation is on.
