Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) in a memorandum to HMDA Commissioner Neerabh Kumar Prasad raised apprehensions about the urban planning body’s new initiative ‘Adopt a Lake’.
SOUL members said the initiative could lead to handing over of lakes to corporates, leading to privatisation of water bodies.
They said three lakes were given to the Hyderabad Golf Association by the Tourism Department. “Public do not have access to these lakes due to the monopoly of HGA. We are opposed to similar attempts being made by the HMDA under the guise of adoption,” they said.
They also requested the HMDA Commissioner to reconsider and terms of engagements and involve SOUL, which can contribute a lot for such causes.
