One Village Watershed Development Committee (VWDC) each from Adilabad and Medak district bagged prestigious NABARD awards under the Indo-German Watershed Development Programme.
At a programme organised here, the NABARD Chief General Manager P. Mohanaiah gave away the awards to Shettihadpnoor VWDC (Adilabad district) and Mylaram VWDC (Medak) as the best performing committees. They were selected among the 36 such panels and received cash award of Rs. 1 lakh each. Among the NGOs – Chetana Organic Farmers Association (COFA) Adilabad got the best performing Project Facilitating Agency.
NABARD is implementing Indo-German Watershed Development Programme, a bilateral programme India and German Governments with 36 projects in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak and Warangal districts covering 41500 hectares.
The programme aims at regeneration of natural resources in rainfed areas and improving livelihoods of local people through various measures.
Right from planning, execution of works, maintenance of structures, incurring expenditure is done through the VWDCs.
Special Commissioner (Rural Development) Suvarna, Deccan Grameena Bank chairman G.Venugopan and NABARD General Manager V.Maruthi Ram and Project Support Unit chief K. Suresh Kumar were present.
