Congress has lost people’s confidence in Seemandhra, he says

APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana has urged the Centre to convene an all-party meeting to consider the demand by the TDP and the YSR Congress for equal justice to both regions before going ahead with bifurcation of the State.

The meeting should discuss apprehensions and concerns being expressed by Seemandhra people and evolve amicable solutions. “The party will suffer in Seemandhra as the Centre’s decision has hurt people’s feelings. The Centre should respect the aspirations of the people before proceeding further,” he said.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Satyanarayana said the Congress was the only party whose leaders from Telangana and Seemandhra regions were consistent in airing their views for and against separate State. “As a leader from Seemandhra, I personally favour a united State,” he said.

The PCC chief admitted having earlier stated that there was nothing wrong in having two Telugu-speaking States, but he said so after asserting his stand in favour of united State to the party high command. “When a son asks his parents that he wants to part ways, the parents will try to convince him against the decision by assuring that his grievances will be addressed. But the same has not happened in this case,” he said.

In this context, he said the Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress which favoured bifurcation in the past took a U-turn claiming that bifurcation should not happen without ensuring equal justice to all regions. “Let the high command examine the issues raised by the people and evolve solutions to them before going ahead,” he said.

Plea to call off stir

Mr. Satyanarayana called upon the employees who are agitating since the past 70 days to call off their stir and avoid putting people to further hardship.

Claiming that the agitation had been infiltrated by anti-social elements who were indulging in damaging of property, he appealed to employees to see that their movement was not seen in bad light.
