Mayor inspects Town Service Reservoir
Another reservoir planned
Houses for residents of Dobhikhana assured
VISAKHAPATNAM: All steps were being taken to avoid problems in supply of drinking water to the people under Greater Visakhapatnam limits, Mayor P. Janardhana Rao said here on Monday.
Mr. Janardhana Rao, who inspected reservoirs at the Town Service Reservoir (TSR) and got details of the water storage and supply, assured that there would not be any problem regarding drinking water during summer.
An action plan was already drawn and more water tankers would be pressed into service to serve the slums and hill slopes areas if there was a need.
“We will also construct another 10 ml reservoir at the TSR under JNNURM and will lay the foundation soon,” the Mayor said promising that reservoirs would be constructed in different divisions in future to eliminate problems in water supply.
The residential tap connections were being sanctioned by reducing the security deposit to Rs. 2,000 to help the middle class and poorer sections so that all could receive drinking water, Mr. Janardhana Rao said and urged all households to utilise the facility.
Families below poverty line were being given tap connection at Rs. 1,200 with a facility of monthly payment of Rs. 100 and this had resulted in more people taking connections, he said.
Chairmen of ward committees G.V. Ravi Raju and Ch. Potharaju, Chief Engineer B. Jayarami Reddy, Superintending Engineer (water supply) V. Chandrayya and others accompanied the Mayor during the inspection of the TSR.
Later during a visit to the 15th Division, Mr. Janardhana Rao assured residents of Dobhikhana that houses for them would be constructed by the side of Dobhikhana gedda.
However, the work on improvement of the gedda, taken up under JNNURM, must be completed, he said.
The Mayor asked the engineers to prepare plans for housing units near the gedda without obstructing its flow and with a connection to the road. Corporator K. Vijayalakshmi was also present.
