Officials charged with not taking the board seriously

ONGOLE : The District Planning Board meeting, held here on Wednesday, witnessed acrimonious scenes as elected representatives expressed their ire against officials for allegedly not taking the board seriously.

While Kandukur MLA, M Mahidhara Reddy, walked out of the meeting, MLC, Jupudi Prabhakara Rao tore the agenda to pieces. The meeting however resolved to identify one village in each Assembly constituency for development as model village with all basic amenities. The concerned committee would discuss with the officials and identify the villages by Jan 19.

‘No focus’

When the meeting began in old zilla parishad office, Mr Mahidhara Reddy wanted to know the fate of the decisions taken by the board at earlier meetings. He expressed unhappiness that the board had not been able to focus either on planning or development.

The officials spent most of the time reading out reports serving no purpose. Saying that the board had not been able to deliberate on development, he walked out.

Then came the turn of Mr Prabhakara Rao. He took on the general manager of District Industries Centre, Y Rishikesh for scribbling down the activities of his department.

“You did not even bother to get the one-page report typed vindicating lack of seriousness”, he charged. To this, Mr Rishikesh replied that he had no budget for getting the report typed.

Other members took objection to his reply leading to a war of words. Mr Prabhakara Rao in a fit of anger tore the agenda to pieces and threw it away.
