Daughter of former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao one of the victims
VISAKHAPATNAM: The city police on Tuesday arrested an accused involved in a number of housebreaking cases, including the house of S. Lakshmi, daughter of former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao.
The accused A. Venkanna, a habitual criminal at Rajahmundry, had committed housebreakings in Visakhapatnam and looted gold, diamond and silver articles. On the intervening night of January 14 and 15, he gained entry into the house of S. Lakshmi by removing the window bars and looted gold ornaments weighing 67 tolas, diamond ear studs and an antique diamond necklace.
The accused took a house on rent at Hanumanthawaka and committed thefts at MVP Colony. On December 20, 2006, Venkanna along with another person committed a theft at Sector I, MVP Colony.
Police Commissioner V.S.K. Kaumudi formed teams to nab the accused under the leadership of additional DCP P. Rama Rao.
The teams shared information with the Guntur Police and zeroed in on the culprit at Hanumanthawaka and seized a gold chain from him. Gold ornaments weighing 40 tolas, diamond jewellery, silver household utensils and articles all worth about Rs.10 lakhs were also recovered from the accused.
