As part of raids on highway check-posts all over the State on the pre-dawn of Saturday, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths raided a check-post of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) Tetagunta in East Godavari district on the national highway between Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam, and seized only Rs.85,000 from the staff there.

According to Narra Venkateswara Rao, DSP, ACB, Eluru Range, the RTA staff was allegedly collecting “mamools” from drivers and owners of vehicles. ``During the check it was found that the officials were engaging private persons in abuse of their official position and were resorting to collection of money illegally from drivers and owners of vehicles passing through the check-post. They were not collecting taxes or fines as per rules or laws and were causing losses to the government exchequer,'' he added.

The ACB officials arrested assistant motor vehicle inspectors Sekhar and Siddique and four private persons in this case.
