HYDERABAD: Praveen Kumar Chandak, who allegedly kidnapped for ransom his house owner's three-year-old son to make up the huge money he had lost in cricket betting, was arrested by the Afzalgunj police on Saturday.
A businessman, Chandak of Osmanshahi, lost Rs. 2.5 lakh having bet money on recently held IPL-3 cricket matches, the Afzalgunj Sub-Inspector, S. Ravi Babu, said. To make good the loss, he hatched a plot and abducted Pridhviraj Yadav, son of his landlord G. Ashok Yadav, while the kid was playing in front of the house on Thursday. He took the boy to Bhongir in Nalgonda district and put him in a lodge room.
The same night, he returned to his rented house so that the boy's father did not suspect his role in the abduction. However, the lodge staff grew suspicious as the boy started crying the next day. They alerted the local police who lay in wait and caught Chandak when he returned to the lodge on Friday.
