In a bid to create awareness among the generation next on the rich Telugu culture, a school in the town organised celebrations on Saturday to invite the ‘Khara namasamvatsaram', the Telugu New Year beginning on Monday.

“Teluguiniti adpaduchula veshadaranam” by tiny-tots was the highlight of the celebrations organised at the Bashyam Little Champs School here to rejoice Ugadi which falls on “Chaitra Shudhdha Paadyami” day.

“We organised the event to enable students to imbibe the rich cultural tradition of ours,”

Bashyam Public School principal M. Venkata Ramana Rao and Bashyam Little Champs School principal N. Susheela said.

Recitation of Pachangam (almanac) by Srivatsav, a class VII student, held the audience spell-bound. Classical and folk dance performances by classes III and IV students captivated the large audience at the school.

A ‘kavi samelan' (literary discussion) was organised with participation by, among others, Ashtavadhani U. Rajini Gangadhar and Prakasam District Rachayuthala Sangam secretary Ponnuri Srinivasulu. Eminent literary persons were honoured on the occasion.

The traditional ‘Ugadi pachadi', a combination of sweet, sour and bitter tastes was distributed to everyone.
