The Vijayawada Book Festival Society will be conducting a host of competitions in the city to celebrate the National Book Week.

With an intention of encouraging young readers to take interest in the world of books, competitions and workshops would be conducted throughout the week, said the VBFS president D. Ashok Kumar. A “Creative writing” workshop would be conducted on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and an inter-college visual quiz competition on Monday, he said.

“We have already conducted various competitions such as inter-school visual quiz, spot drawing and workshops like “My World of Books” and “the Book that I liked best”, he said. Winners for these competitions would be announced at the closing ceremony on November 20.

The book exhibition, due to lack of availability of Swaraj Maidan, was inaugurated at the VMC and VBFS research and reference library by Thurlapaty Kutumba Rao on Wednesday. Various books will be on display at this exhibition till Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Apart from this, the VBFS would also expand into other cities and conduct book exhibitions in Machilipatnam and Rajahmundry this year, Mr. Kumar said.

The book exhibition in Rajahmundry would take place from November 23 to December 2, he said.
