Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday made several poll promises during his maiden visit to Seemandhra region after bifurcation was announced.
While reminding the people that the UPA government had implemented the rural employment guarantee scheme (MGNREGS), the Right to Education (RTE) and the Food Safety Act, he promised three more rights under a possible Congress government in 2014.
He said each family in the country would be provided the right to a house, free medicine and surgeries for the ill, and minimum pension for the aged.
He said the Congress was favourably disposed to granting SC/ST status to the ‘Rajaka’, ‘Vaddera’ and ‘Valmiki’ communities while including the ‘Kapu’ and ‘Balija’ communities with the backward castes.
He also assured the people of the establishment of a petroleum and agricultural university.
Besides the above, he promised a farm loan waiver of up to Rs.2 lakh to farmers in the State, besides free power to those using less than 100 units of electricity.
