The university inks pact with the BSNL

GITAM is ninth varsity in the country to implement NMEICT

Installation process will be completed in five days: BSNL GM

Visakhapatnam: GITAM students, faculty and researchers would now be able to access information and knowledge that is available on internet with blazing speed, said General Manager of BSNL Visakhapatnam Telecom District P. Nagaraju here on Wednesday.

“GITAM is the first university in South India to subscribe for this high bandwidth,” he said after signing an MoU with the university.


Under NMEICT generation of knowledge modules in all subjects for all classes in higher education domain would be fully funded by the Central Government. The objective of the scheme was to provide high quality personalised and interactive knowledge modules over the internet and intranet and through satellite communication for all the learners in higher education institutions, said GITAM University Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam.

The university would be provided a local area network (LAN) of 400 nodes which will be connected via 1 Gbps link to the National Knowledge Network (NKN) port.

The Union Ministry of HRD has identified 419 universities in the country to implement this NMEICT Mission through BSNL, but a few institutions responded. According to Mr. Nagaraju GITAM was the ninth university in the country to implement the project. He hoped that the installations process would be completed within five days.

Registrar M. Potharaju and Mr. Nagaraju singed the MoU. BSNL Deputy General Manager Y. Prakasa Rao, Divisional Engineers B. Ravindra Kumar and S. Nagi Reddy, GITAM Secretary B.V. Mohana Rao, Principals of campus colleges V.K. Kumar, D. Prasada Rao, P. Suresh and G. Ananda Rao and others were present.
