Over 1.6 lakh people gather at Parade Grounds in Hyderabad to render Annamayya sankeertanas
Hyderabad: It was indeed a transcendental experience. With over 1.6 lakh people gathering at Parade Grounds on Sunday evening to recite Annamayya sankeertanas, the environs of Secunderabad reverberated with devotional music and a new Guinness Book of World Record was set. In the process of reciting the sankeertanas, the participants set a new Guinness Book of World record surpassing a 72-year-old record set in Germany by a choir of 60,000 in 1937.
The record was announced by Guinness Book of World Records representative and adjudicator for the programme, Raymond Marshall amidst huge roar of applause from the audience.
SiliconAndhra, a voluntary organisation in association with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) organised “Annamayya Lakshagalarchana” programme in connection with Annamayya 601st jayanti celebrations and to promote Annamayya sankeertanas across the globe.
Organisers distributed over one lakh Annamayya sankeertanas booklets to the gathering in a bid to help them sing in chorus. All the participants recited the sankeertanas simultaneously along with noted singer Garimella Balakrishna Prasad, who rendered the sankeertanas from the podium.
Some of the noted sankeertanas including Bhavamulo Bahyam, Brahma Kadigina Padam were recited and the participants followed suit by clapping their hands and thighs. Irrespective of age, participants enjoyed the evening in a devotional bliss and some even played flute and cymbals.
A festive atmosphere prevailed in and around the Parade Grounds with many children and youngsters dressing up as composer-singer Annamayya and Lord Sri Venkateswara.
The stage was decked up beautifully to suit the occasion and Veda pandits from TTD also participated in the programme.
The certificate, confirming the Guinness record, was received by Finance Minister K. Rosaiah. As the Minister received the certificate, the audience chanted the slogans of “Govinda Govinda”.
Addressing the gathering, SiliconAndhra president Kuchibotla Anand, congratulated all the participants and said the programme would help in propagation of Telugu culture across the world.
Famous musicians Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, L. Subramanian and noted singer Kavita Krishnamurthy conducted musical concerts. TTD Chairman Adikeshavulu Naidu, BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya, film personalities Nagarjuna, Amala, K. Raghavendra Rao, R.P. Patnaik were among present.
