Provision for special allocation sought
VISAKHAPATNAM: The TDP on Wednesday protested against priority not being given to Visakhapatnam railway division in the allocations in the Railway Budget.
Led by former MLAs S.A. Rehman, Palla Simhachalam, Ganababu, and party Urban president C.M.A. Zaheer Ahmed, they stopped the Dhanbad-Tata-Alleppey Express for sometime at the Visakhapatnam railway station in the morning.
Dr. Zaheer Ahmed wanted the wrong to be righted by making provision for a special allocation.
Party leaders Gudivada Nagamani, E. Mariadas, TDP floor leader in the Municipal Corporation Nalluri Bhaskara Rao, corporators Gudivada Amanarath, Kona Tata Rao, Gogineni Sambasiva Rao and K. Vijayalakshmi participated
Memo to DRM
The TDP leaders later submitted a memorandum to Divisional Railway Manager Indra Ghosh.
The Railway Minister had failed to keep the promise, they said, adding that let alone introducing new trains, existing trains were being diverted to the neighbouring States, meting out a raw deal to the people here.Dr. Ahmed said there was no mention of the formation of new zone with Waltair as headquarters.
While eight Garib Rath trains were proposed to be introduced not even one was connected to Visakhapatnam.
Besides shifting the electrification branch from the division to Bhubaneswhar, extending revenue-earning Visakha Express and Prashanti Express was putting people from the region to inconvenience, he said.
For the past three year no new train was introduced in the division.
