DGP launches `Balamitra' concept at Gajuwaka

  • Child welfare officer to be appointed in each station
  • Elders responsible for some children taking wrong path: DGP

VISAKHAPATNAM: Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen on Thursday inaugurated a new concept of providing playing, entertainment and learning facilities for children at the Gajuwaka police station.

Named as `Balamitra police station,' this facility, the second in the State after Hyderabad, would help children to shape themselves as good citizens besides learning a lot about police work.

There will be one child welfare officer - head constable D. Suribabu who would have friendly interaction with children on a day-to-day basis.

The sports and entertainment, including video and audio facilities, would be available free of cost at any time to all the children irrespective of their social or economic background.

Mr. Sen, who actively interacted with the children, mostly school pupils, by helping them enjoy play in the swing, see-saw, merry-go-round etc., compared children with diamonds and said the more the society gives them chances the more they would shine. He blamed elders as responsible for some children taking a wrong path.

The DGP promised to extend the facilities to other police stations in the State.
