Rajahmundry: The management and control of the Arts College went into the hands of Adikavi Nannaya University on paper. Former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan worked as teacher in this college. Social reformer Kandukuri Veeresalingam, Andhra’s first Chief Minister Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, popular artist Damerla Ramarao and hundreds of IAS and IPS officers came out of this college.

However, Nannaya University, established in 2006 without buildings or having no class rooms asked the government for holding classes in two or three rooms in Arts College, to which the Directorate of Higher Education agreed. Nannaya University is now said to be demanding control and management of the college. The Arts College teaching staff will lose their Gazetted officer ranks if they work under University Act. They are subject to be transferred to other places. No pension facility will be there for any employee of Arts College. The promotion system will be entirely different.

Though Nannaya University has been allotted 160 acres at present in Rajanagaram mandal, the 40 acres of land and buildings of Arts College will go under the hold of the university from now. The Arts College is having autonomous status till 2013 and NAAC certificate with `A’ grade, having a number of new courses.
