Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, cut a cake to mark the 73{+r}{+d}anniversary of Indian Naval Ship ‘ Circars’ on W ednesday (12.12.12).

Initially established as a small base by the Royal Indian Navy in December 1939 shortly after the outbreak of Second World War II, the role of Circars has changed over the years from coordinating naval operations, functioning as a repair organisation, and being an establishment for Boys’ training, to its present status of being the premier Depot Ship of the Eastern Naval Command.

The establishment currently provides administrative and logistics support to as many as 44 naval units in and around Visakhapatnam, catering to over 3500 personnel. To commemorate the occasion, personnel of INS Circars and allied units participated in a host of activities, including a ‘ barakhana’ for all civilian employees and a get-together for service personnel and families.

Decked as per the theme of 12.12.12, the naval base wore a festive look, with the participation of a large number of serving and retired officers.

The occasion was also marked by the release of an in-house Hindi magazine ‘ Circars Vaani’ by Commodore Saleem M Anwer, Commanding Officer, INS Circars.
