HYDERABAD: Tragedy struck a family from the city when seven of its members, including four children, were killed in a road accident at Solapur in Maharashtra on Friday.

The family of Anwar Pahelwan from Topkhana of Goshamahal left for the Khaja Bande Nawaz Dargah at Gulbarga in Karnataka in two Qualis vehicles on Sunday. From there, they went to Mumbai and were returning to Hyderabad when a speeding lorry collided with a Qualis head on around 5.30 a.m.

Anwar Pahelwan’s brother, his wife, their two children and four other family members were crushed to death in the accident. “All that I could remember is a sand-laden lorry hit our Qualis vehicle and we lost our dear ones,” Anwar cried. His four other family members who suffered injuries were brought to the city and admitted to Osmania General Hospital for treatment.

Confusion on names

On learning about the shocking news, Pahelwan’s relatives rushed to Solapur. A pall of gloom descended on their house with mourning locals, relatives and friends gathering in large numbers. The bodies were brought to the city late in the night. The final rites will be performed on Saturday.

Confusion prevailed over the names of the victims as none of the relatives or locals were able to give details.
