The Department of Hepetology and Gastro, Medwin Hospitals, is organising a series of awareness programmes including a 5K run from People’s Plaza, Necklace Road on Sunday, which is observed as World Hepatitis Day worldwide.
A patient awareness talk on Hepatitis, will be delivered by the department head Dr. Manisha Bangar between 11 a.m. and 12 noon at hospital auditorium and a blood screening camp for hepatitis will be organised at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, between 7.30 a.m. and 8 a.m. on the occasion.
Organising chairperson Dr. Bangar said the prevalence of Hepatitis B in the State is more than the national average of four per cent among the general population. The 5K run will be held between 6.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m.
The health run and other programmes are part of an attempt to make it into Guinness Book of World Records for organising hepatitis awareness programmes worldwide at various venues simultaneously on the same day. The record attempt is being organised in collaboration with World Hepatitis Alliance.
