There has been steady increase in tourists visiting the district of late. The newly opened Haritha Hotel, the accommodation facility at scenic Laknavaram Lake and ongoing reconstruction of historic Thousand Pillar temple could be the reasons.
According to a study conducted by the Tourism Department, over 50 lakh domestic tourists and over 600 foreign tourists visited the district from January to September this year when compared to the 26 lakh came to the district last year.
Shivaji of Tourism Department said that this year the number of tourists visiting the district had increased two fold in comparison to last year. Total number of domestic tourists visited by the end of September was 51,91,658. Similarly about 650 foreign tourists have also visited the district so far. DPRO K. Venkataramana said the Kakatiya Festival drew a huge crowd and it gave good publicity to the district by catching the attention of people from different parts of the country. Noted danseuses Padma Sri Andna Shankar Jayanth, Padma Bhushan Swapna Sundari and others performed during the Kakatiya Festival. The performances by well-known Radha and Raja Reddy, Qawwali by Warsi Brothers also drew big gatherings. The Kakatiya Festival as a whole helped to boost tourism potential of the district.
“We are going to organise some more events as part of the valedictory of the year-long Kakatiya Festival from December 21 to 23 and we expect more tourists during the event,” he pointed out. The Kakatiya Festival coincides with the celebrations earmarked to commemorate the 800 years of Ramappa temple and the 750th anniversary of the coronation of Rani Rudrama.
