TIRUPATI: The Government has approved 41,900 agricultural power connections, including those under free category and tatkal scheme, for 2006-07.

The number of free connections allotted to AP Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) to be distributed among the six districts under its purview is 11,300 and the number for tatkal category is 30,600.

The district-wise break-up of free and tatkal categories are as follows: Krishna (700 and 7,500), Guntur (750 and 3,000), Prakasam (1,750 and 2,000), Nellore (1,800 and 9,000), Chittoor (4,100 and 7,100) and Kadapa (2,200 and 2,000).

Discom's Chairman and Managing Director P. Gopal Reddy has stated in a release that development charges of Rs. 1000 per HP and consumption deposit of Rs. 200 per HP will have to be paid by the applicants. Though meters will be provided for the free category connections also bills will, however, not be issued. The company also asked the field officials to consider erecting additional distribution transformers.
