The city police arrested four persons who were involved in several chain snatching cases in various parts of the State and recovered gold ornaments weighing around 1 kg from them.

Addressing a media conference on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police J. Brahma Reddy and Assistant Commissioner of Police (south) B. Atchuta Rao said that the gang members K Siva and M Jagadeesh of Nellore, P Ramu of Anakapalle and A Durgaprasad of Hyderabad, who were involved in a few snatching cases, became friends while they were in prison and decided to continue their criminal acts as a gang.

They were taken into custody by SI B. Rama Krishna Rao of New Port Police Station and his team at L.B. Nagar in Hyderabad on Monday.

The gang was involved in 15 cases in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Hyderabad.

The modus operandi of the gang was to approach women walking in isolated streets on their motorcycles and snatch their chains.

The gang was involved in seven cases in Visakhapatnam city alone.

New Port Police are investigating the case.
