A 30-year-old man was murdered, allegedly by his uncle, in front of the State Intelligence office in Lakdikapul on Sunday morning in connection with a marital dispute.
Ijaz, an A/C mechanic in a star hotel at Lakdikapul, after completing his night duty, came out to board a bus around 7.15 a.m. when his uncle Nasir Baig along with three accomplices attacked him with knives killing him on the spot, police said. The killers later surrendered to the police.
Ijaz married Vazeera, daughter of Nasir's elder brother, three years ago, the police said. However, he divorced her a few months ago owing to family disputes. The community leaders later summoned his family members and asked them to return Rs.1.65 lakh in cash, gold and other ornaments given to Ijaz as dowry.
His family handed over the gold ornaments and said that the cash would be given within a few weeks. However, Ijaz's family performed his engagement with another girl two days ago without returning the dowry amount to Vazeera's family. Angered over this, Nasir and his three friends waylaid Ijaz and killed him by slitting his throat, police said.
