10,000 acres to be given to 8,091 poor people in the sixth phase

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Minister for Planning and Finance Anam Ramnarayan Reddy has said that nearly 2.81 lakh acres has been distributed among the people of poor and backward sections under the land distribution programme in the State so far.

Speaking after handing over benefits under various schemes at a meeting here on Saturday, Mr. Ramnarayan Reddy said that land was distributed in five phases till now and the remaining landless poor people would be covered under the 6th phase. He asserted that their government had made every effort to look after the welfare of the people without compromising with their basic requirements.

Mr. Reddy said that 50,805 acres was handed over to 39,975 beneficiaries in the State in the five phases. In the 6th phase, it was so far decided to distribute 10,000 acres to 8,091 poor people. A large number of people, who were receiving benefits under various schemes, were mobilised at the meeting.

The Minister said that interest-free loans worth Rs. 15.70 crore were given to tenant farmers and 5,000 gas connections were given under the Deepam scheme.

Earlier,, Mr. Reddy took part in the foundation stone laying function for the Rs. 10-lakh worth CC roads at Hrithik lay-out in 27th division in the city. He said that the estimates to the tune of Rs. 400 crore were being prepared to lay special drinking water pipelines from the Sangam barrage. Mr. Ramnarayan Reddy said that the drinking water supply would also be augmented by constructing the Indira reservoir at a cost of Rs. 140 crore. Another project would be taken up to develop drainage system with Rs. 600 crore.
