District Judge T. Tarakaram on Saturday said around 2,500 cases related to accidents involving motor vehicles, civil, criminal and excise were settled in the Lok Adalats held in Eluru, Chintalapudi, Tadepalligudem, Tanuku, Bhimavaram, Narsapuram, Nidadavole and Palacole. Mr. Tarakaram inaugurated a Lok Adalat in the city which was presided by himself in his capacity as a sitting judge and attended by Superintendent of Police C. Ravi Varma.
The adalats helped settle over 160 accident claims and pay Rs. 3.50 lakh to the accident victims towards compensation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Judge said the adalats helped in relieving the presiding officers of regular courts of the burden of pending cases to a great extent.
He said the programme had received a good response from the litigant public.
Five make-shift benches were constituted in the city for disposal of cases through the adalats.
