They wanted a debate on land transactions

HYDERABAD: Twenty-three Telugu Desam members were suspended from the Assembly for the day on Monday when they paralysed the proceedings demanding a debate on land transactions undertaken by the State government.

They kept shouting slogans after Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy refused to admit a notice of adjournment motion given by the TDP and the CPI to discuss the demand. Mr. Reddy adjourned the House for a short break in the midst of the din to pacify the agitated members but there was no improvement in the situation on resumption.

The Speaker suspended the TDP legislators as his repeated pleas to them to raise the issue under a different rule went in vain.

He also offered to allot time for a debate on the subject in consultation with the TDP and CPI.

After suspension, the members organised a mock demonstration on how the land deals were struck in the Congress government. The TD Legislature Party deputy leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy assumed the role of the Chief Minister and party secretary E. Dayakar Rao acted as the Chief Secretary.
