TIRUPATI: The Tirupati crime police nabbed two chain snatchers on Wednesday evening and recovered chains worth Rs.6 lakhs, involved in as many as 34 cases in and around Tirupati.

T. Bhima Raju (24), the accused, hailed from downtown Mangalam area and his accomplice R. Sudhakar (27) from Yasodha Nagar in the town. Surprisingly, they were no urchins or professional criminals, but were B. Tech and B.Com graduates respectively, who had taken to vice and resorted to chain snatching to make quick money for leading a lavish life.

At a media conference here on Thursday, Additional Superintendent of Police B. Seshu said that the modus operandi of the duo was to snatch chains from womenfolk during their morning walk or those decorating their courtyard with `Rangoli' and flee on a motorcycle.
