The 170-odd couples could not have asked for a better setting for their wedding. The Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Public Gardens was suitably decked up for the ‘Kalyanamastu' programme organised by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Friday. Amid chanting of hymns by TTD priests who had come all the way from Tirumala, the couples got married in traditional Hindu style as their friends and relatives watched from the visitors' galleries. The TTD also provided the couples new clothes, ‘mangalasutra' and other material free besides food arrangements at the venue. About 12,000 couples entered wedlock all over the State as part of the programme which is in its sixth year. Thus far, the TTD had conducted 34,000 free mass marriages. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, Minister for Marketing Mukesh Goud, TTD Specified Authority Chairman J. Satyanarayana, E.O. I.Y.R.Krishna Rao, Principal Secretary (Revenue) K.V. Ramanachary and others attended the programme.
