They take place within a span of two hours

GUNTUR: Seventeen persons were injured in three different road accidents which took place within a span of two hours near Ankireddypalem village on the National Highway number nine at the city outskirts during the early hours of Thursday.

According to Guntur Rural police, a lorry coming towards Vijayawada collided head-on with another lorry which was coming in the opposite direction on the wrong lane near Ankireddypalem village at around midnight. The highway police shifted five people who were injured to the Guntur General Hospital (GGH).

Bus hits lorry

After a few minutes, an RTC bus coming from Kanigiri in Prakasam district, on its way to Vijayawada, hit the same stationary lorry involved earlier in the collision. The bus fell into an adjacent canal, resulting in injuries to seven passengers. The highway police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to GGH.

The police placed stones near Potthuru X Roads to temporarily divert the highway traffic on a different route. At around 2 am, the driver of a Tata Sumo jeep coming at high speed jammed the brakes all of a sudden after noticing the stones. As a result, the vehicle lost balance and fell on the side of the road leaving five persons injured.

Rakshak highway patrol vehicles of the police and ambulance of the Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI) stationed in Guntur were pressed into service to shift the injured. Guntur Rural police led by Sub Inspector U. Ravi Chandra is investigating the case.
