NIZAMABAD: Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu honoured 16 teachers on the occasion of Teacher’s Day on Wednesday.

Addressing a gathering at the Rajiv Gandhi auditorium after garlanding the portrait of former President Sarvepally Radhakrishnan, he said teaching was a highly respectable profession and that teachers played a crucial role in shaping students as good citizens.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson G. Anitha and legislator G. Ganga Reddy also spoke. Messages sent by Ministers -- D. Srinivas and Mohammad Ali Shabbir -- were read out in the function. Earlier, the awardees were taken on to the dais with “poornakumbham” and amid chanting of Veda mantras.

District Educational Officer T. Lingaiah and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Additional Project Coordinator Jagadeeswar Goud were also honoured. The awardees are: L. Ramakrishna Reddy, G. Narsaiah, D. Raji Reddy, A. Ashok Kumar, Y. Ramesh, K. Ganga Kishan, K. Salman, A. Venkatesam, M. Limbadri, M. Yoganand, M.Vijaykumar, K. Narmada Kumari, Syamkumar Bhat, J. Ramchander, Satyanarayana Rao and Kishan Rao.

Karimnagar: Satavahana Lions Club of Karimnagar also feted teachers to mark the occasion.
