Three student unions stage ‘rasta roko’, disrupt traffic
Students released on execution of personal bonds
Demand includes scrapping of G.O. 76 among others
NIZAMABAD: The town police arrested 16 activists of Progressive Democratic Students Union, Students Federation of India and All-India Students Federation when they staged a ‘rasta roko’ on the Pholong Bridge, Hyderabad road to press for the charter of seven demands, on Tuesday.
They were shifted to IV-town police station where they were set free after execution of personal bonds.
Earlier, there was high drama with the agitators refusing to budge and the police personnel trying to remove them from road as movement of vehicular traffic was affected. The police personnel at last bodily lifted them and bundled them into a waiting van.
According to Goutham Prasad, the PDSU district president, the ‘rasta roko’ was organised in response to the call given by the three student unions.
He said, until their demands were met, the agitation would continue.
The demands included scrapping of G.O.76, withdrawal of the decision to merge schools and introduction of CBSE syllabus in high schools, regularisation of fees in private schools, immediate supply of all text books, recruitment of sufficient number of teaching staff, and mid-day meal scheme.
