12 teams to volley for DRM Cup tournament

As part of the `Ruby' celebrations of South Central Railway

  • Games to be staged in knockout - cum-league format
  • Cultural programmes and prize distribution ceremony on October 11

    VIJAYAWADA: As part of the `Ruby' celebrations of South Central Railway (SCR) on the occasion of its formation 40 years ago, SCR Sports Association is conducting a three-day inter-department volleyball tournament, which was inaugurated by additional divisional railway manager K.V.V. Satyanarayana at the Railway Institute on Monday. Senior divisional electrical engineer (electrical loco-shed) Thourya also participated.

    Programmes conducted

    Twelve teams, divided into two pools, are vying for the honours in the tournament, which would be staged in knockout - cum-league format. Divisional sports officer of SCR P. Kishore Babu said ever since the formation of SCR in 1966, sports and cultural programmes were being organised every year.

    Teams such as Sr. DSC/RPF, Sr. DEE/ELS/, DME/DLS, Sr. DSTE, Sr. DPO, Sr. DEE, Sr. DEE/M, Sr. DOM, Sr. DME/C&W, Sr. DCM, Sr. DEN (Co-ordination) and Sr. DFM are participating in the volleyball tournament.

    "Both the semi-finals and final would be organised on October 11 and a tug-of-war competition for officers would also be organised," said Mr. Babu. Cultural programmes and prize distribution ceremony would be held on the same day, in which the divisional railway manager would be chief guest.

    Krishna District Volleyball Association secretary P. Koteswara Rao, along with association referees, are officiating the tourney.
