Noted Vedic scholar ‘Brahmasri’ Samavedam Shanmukha Sarma has said that our Vedas, epics, and Puranas have underlined the importance of worshipping the Sun god, as He is the one who bestows health on mankind.
Beginning his 10-day discourse on ‘Aditya Hridayam — Suryaradhana’ at the Hindu Samaj here on Friday, Sri Shanmukha Sarma said that the Brahma Purana, the Vishnu Purana, the Bhagavad Geeta, the Bhagavatam, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata had special mention on how to worship the Sun god and the advantages people would derive.
He said that the Patanjali Yoga Sastra gave utmost importance to Lord Surya.
Before the discourse, there was an inaugural meeting that was presided over by D.V. Hanumantha Rao of Rishi Peetham Charitable Trust, which is organising thee discourse.
T.V. Narayana Rao, a member of the trust, said it was a privilege for people of Rajahmundry to listen to the importance of Aditya Hridayam from Sri Shanmukha Sarma.
Nyapati Lakshmi Narasimha Rao, secretary of the Hindu Samaj, said the samaj premises was sacred as it had the opportunity to host many saintly persons for the past many years.
Telugu literary scholar Salaka Raghunatha Sarma released ‘Rishi Peetham’ magazine on the occasion and handed over the first copy to Mr. Narasimha Rao.
