HYDERABAD: Jumping on the bandwagon of those seeking the induction of Rahul Gandhi into the Congress Working Committee, a group of young MPs wants him to take a "broader responsibility" in national politics.

The parliamentarians, here to attend the AICC plenary, say it is time for the charismatic MP to play a decisive role in party affairs rather than confining himself to Amethi or Rae Bareili. "Given his charisma, ability, ideas and vision, every young person across the country is eagerly waiting for him to play a major role in national politics," said Jyotiraditya Scindia, Guna MP. "It is not just our voice, it is a chorus," he told The Hindu.

Another MP, Ajay Maken, said young leaders in the party were waiting for the day Mr. Gandhi would involve himself more in national politics as "their representative."

"We had been putting forth the demand from every available platform and the time has come for the party to give an appropriate response," said Sandeep Dikshit and Deepender Singh Hooda, MPs.
