Irrigation authorities have lifted three crest gates of Lower Manair Dam (LMD) reservoir on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Saturday evening following heavy inflows into the project.

The reservoir has 23.5 tmcft of water against its storage capacity of 24 tmcft. With the project receiving 9,6000 cusecs of water from the SRSP flood flow canal, the authorities have opened three crest gates and are releasing 6,080 cusecs of water into the river Manair and another 3,000 cusecs of water into Kakatiya canal to the neighbouring Warangal district. The irrigation officials said that they would lift more crest gates depending on the inflows into the project.

Meanwhile, people thronged the LMD in large numbers to have a glimpse of flood waters gushing out the flood gates.
