Bhubaneswar: In a boost to the ruling Biju Janata Dal in Orissa, three Congress leaders joined the party on Sunday.
The former MLA, Udayanath Nayak, State Seva Dal chief Raghunath sahu and senior tribal leader from Mayurbhanj Rout Hesa joined the BJD along with their supporters in the presence of party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Patnaik accused the Congress of neglecting the poor and paying little attention to their welfare.
He ridiculed the Congress’ promise to provide rice at Rs.3 a kg to the poor if voted to power.
The BJD supremo said his government was giving rice at Rs 2 a kg. “It shows who is the real friend of poor people,” he said.
He claimed that a number of development and welfare programmes were initiated during the nine-year rule of the BJD.
Mr. Patnaik asked the party men to explain to the people in the State about the beneficial impact of the schemes such as ‘Biju Jyoti Yojana,’ ‘Madhubabu Pension Yojana,’ and ‘Mo Kudia Yojana.’ — PTI
