Sakleshpur Town police arrested three people on the charge of cheating a planter after assuring him a “rice puller” (copper iridium), on Thursday. The arrested are Janardhanan, Babu and Raveendran from Kerala. Dr. Janardhanan, from Alappuzha district in Kerala, is the principal of Dr. Padiar Memorial Homeopathic Medical College.

Sudheer, a coffee planter of Arakere in Sakleshpur, had filed a police complaint that he was approached by the accused offering a “rice puller”.

Superintendent of Police Amit Singh told The Hindu that the accused had assured the complainant of giving him a “rice puller”. “Our police team caught them when they came to Sakleshpur to receive money from the complainant,” he said.

Sudheer had paid Rs. 50,000 in advance and was ready to pay Rs. 2 lakh on receipt of the material. Sakleshpur Town Police said, “We have recovered Rs. 6 lakh in cash and photos of ‘rice puller’ from the accused.” The police have registered a case under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
