In a major robbery, a five-member gang is reported to have stolen eight sovereigns of gold ornaments and 30 kg of silver from Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple located at Gowrapalem centre in Gudur in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The cost of the stolen ornaments was estimated to be about Rs. 25 lakh. Endowment and Revenue officials visited the temple following the incident. The police said that when the temple priest went to open the doors at 6 a.m., he found the locks broken even as the valuables were missing. The priest immediately alerted the executive officer, who lodged a complaint with the police.
