The Telangana joint action committee (JAC) has said that it will address an open letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to spell out his stand on Statehood issue ahead of his visit here on February 4.

The JAC will also ask Dr. Singh to take steps to change the design of Hyderabad Metro Rail on the ground that it threatens to be the source of destruction in the State capital in the present form, its chairman M. Kodandaram said after unfurling the tricolour on Republic Day at JAC office here. The flag of Telangana was hoisted simultaneously.

In asking Dr. Singh to respond to the demand for separate Telangana, Mr. Kodandaram recalled that the Central government had promised to take a decision in a political atmosphere that was free of agitations. The present situation was ideal for decision making, he said.

His letter would highlight the displacement of several shops due to the passing of Hyderabad Metro Rail through the main arteries of the city.

It was better to have underground metro where the livelihood of people was threatened. Quoting the former managing director of Delhi metro E. Sreedharan, he said the Hyderabad metro was more of a real estate project than a rail project.
