Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Velappally Natesan has said that the government should take urgent measures to settle the dispute between the two warring factions of the Malankara Church.

In a press release here on Thursday, he said the shutdown of prayer centres was ‘a violation of the constitutional rights of a citizen,’ adding that he was quite unhappy to see churches remaining closed.

The press release was issued after a Jacobite team called on him at his residence at Kanichukulangara in the district on Thursday.

The captain of the team, Kuriakose Mar Eusebius, said they called on Mr. Natesan on the instruction of their Catholicos.

‘‘We have extended full support to Nair-Ezhava unity. All community-based organisations in the State should work united against social injustice,’’ he said.

He demanded government’s intervention in the church row. Several churches, including the St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s church at Kolencherry, had been a matter of dispute between the Jacobite and the Orthodox factions.
