The District Magistrate of Chandigarh on Friday directed residents intending to keep paying guests to inform the Station House Officer of that area in writing, mentioning their particulars.
The details would have to be submitted within one month of the issue of this order, failing which the residents would be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
District Magistrate's order
The District Magistrate has also ordered that residents would not employ any domestic servant, helper and part-time maid servant unless the particulars were furnished to the SHO concerned in writing.
An official spokesman of the Chandigarh Administration said these measures had been taken to ensure that “anti-social elements” do not enter and live in the city in the guise of paying guests. Furthermore, it would be strictly ensured that the antecedents of domestic helpers were “verified” to prevent crime.
