A pedestrian was run over by a vehicle believed to be part of DMK deputy general secretary M. K. Stalin’s convoy near Madurai airport on Friday.
The pedestrian was identified as Murugan (65), son of Thangamalai Asari of Odaipatti in Dindigul district.
He was treated for multiple injuries at the Government Rajaji Hospital.
Indications are that Murugan had come to Perungudi to attend a family function.
He was reportedly run over while crossing the road in order to board a bus.
Perungudi police have registered a case under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life). Further investigation is on.
The DMK leader, who was in the city briefly, had arrived to offer condolence to the family members of Kamalai Thiagarajan, the elder brother of P.T.R. Palanivelrajan, who died a few days back in Madurai.
Later, Mr. Stalin proceeded to Ramanathapuram district, DMK sources said.
